'House Of Cards' Season 5 Air Date, Spoilers & News: Final Season Set & Could Follow British Version Ending?

"House of Cards" on Netflix is in the midst of production for Season 5. Talks and speculations that this upcoming season could be its final one continue among fans, despite no confirmation from the show's executive producers nor the streaming platform. But if "House of Cards" does end, will it follow the same path as the British version?

Talks that "House of Cards" Season 5 would be the last for the Netflix series have cropped up because of fan comparisons between the U.S. adaptation and the U.K. version. Debuting in 1990, the British "House of Cards" actually ran for three seasons on BBC. The U.S. version has extended beyond what is in the U.K. version and the book that was written by Michael Dobbs.

Much of the storyline of "House of Cards" on Netflix have also deviated from the original sources. There are concerns that the show could be running out of materials, hence Season 5 could be its inevitable end.

In the BBC version of "House of Cards," Elizabeth Urquhart, the wife of Prime Minister Francis Urquhart, orchestrated his death to pursue her personal interest. Thus, fans believe this will be the direction the Netflix show will end up with in its American counterpart, Claire and Frank Underwood.

However, "House of Cards" executive producer Dana Brunetti have confirmed via CNBC that the writers haven't come up with an ending to the show just yet. So, there's still a possibility that Netflix could keep the show for at least three more seasons after Season 5. It is believed that 5.75 million subscribers have watched the show's fourth season and "House of Cards" remains one of Netflix's most buzzed about original programs, Fortune reports.

Meanwhile, "House of Cards" is done with the table read of its eighth episode for Season 5, as shared by Brunetti on his Instagram. There are usually 13 episodes in one season, so filming is halfway done. Netflix has launched previous seasons of "House of Cards" during spring and it is expected to follow the same schedule for the upcoming season in 2017.
