Nathan Fillion Admits 'Castle' Series Finale 'Wasn't The Beautiful Send-Off,' Talks 'Modern Family' Guest Stint Nerves

Nathan Fillion, the star of the canceled series "Castle," has spoken up again about the crime drama's untimely end on ABC. The actor would've been working on the show's ninth season at this time. But since "Castle" has been taken off the air, Nathan Fillion is instead filling his time by guest starring in the comedy series "Modern Family." He admits to getting nervous about being in a new show.

In an interview with the New York Post, Nathan Fillion admits regret over how "Castle" ended last May. "It wasn't the beautiful send-off that I think maybe you could hope for," the actor, who starred on "Castle" for eight seasons, said.

Yet he clarified that he's OK about the cancellation and he can't take it personally. "Look at my resume, it's a long list of canceled TV shows," Nathan Fillion said, adding that he's grateful for the show and the "great friends" he's worked with all those years.

It's the same sentiment that Nathan Fillion said when he talked to TV Line about "Castle's" cancellation last summer. "I've worked with amazing people that I love so very, very much...and I'll miss them dearly," he told the news outlet in the video interview below.

"Castle" was on its way to earning a ninth season even without Nathan Fillion's co-star Stana Katic on board. However, the network decided to not renew the show at the last minute. The show's crew prepared two types of ending to use regardless of the outcome.

Now that Nathan Fillion is not tied to any show this season, the actor is free to work as a guest in other shows. Last Wednesday, Oct. 12, viewers got to see Nathan Fillion on "Modern Family" for the first time and he will be seen in potentially three to five more episodes.

Nathan Fillion plays the weatherman Rainer Shine on "Modern Family," who is Hayley's (Sarah Hyland) new love interest. Comedy takes place between him and actor Ty Burrell, who plays Hayley's father Phil. Phil and Rainer are of the same age on the show.

The actor admits being on "Modern Family" gives him the jitters because it's a show he loves watching and it has been around for years. He jokes that he hopes he could land a guest spot on "The Walking Dead" next. Catch Nathan Fillion's return on "Modern Family" with another new episode this Thursday, Oct. 20.
