'House Of Cards' Season 5 Latest News: New Showrunners Add 2 Big Names, 'Luke Cage' Mahershala Ali Talks Pay Off For Leaving

Filming for Netflix's political drama hit "House of Cards" Season 5 ramps up with the new showrunners adding two big names in the cast. Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott are joining Kevin Spacey (Frank Underwood) and Robin Wright (Claire Underwood) in the new season.

Meanwhile, Mahershala Ali (Remy Danton) talks about what leaving the show has done for him. The actor has moved on to another Netflix series, "Luke Cage," whose first season was released on the platform last Sept. 30.

Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott are going to play major parts in "House of Cards" Season 5. But whether they are allies or adversaries of the Underwoods will have to remain a big mystery for viewers. Details of their participation have not been divulged by Netflix as per usual, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott are veterans on television, having done shows like "Six Feet Under," "Prison Break" and "Royal Pains."

What's certain for now is that "House of Cards" Season 4 cast additions, Neve Campbell and Joel Kinnaman are still going to be in the new season, Screen Crush reports. New showrunners Frank Pugliese and Melissa James, along with executive producer Dana Brunetti and the cast, have been in the middle of production since July.

Parent Herald previously reported on production sighting in Baltimore over the summer. Netflix hasn't yet determined the premiere date for "House of Cards" Season 5, but it could arrive in February like in the past releases.

Meanwhile, "House of Cards" Season 5 will be without Remy Danton as Mahershala Ali capped his final appearance last season. Leaving the show was a decision the actor doesn't regret. "I felt grateful for the work I was getting, but I wasn't fulfilled," he told Strait Times. But he also said that working on "House of Cards" paved the door for him.

Mahershala Ali has been in show business for nearly two decades, but only recently got more recognition for his work especially after the Emmys nominated him for "House of Cards." He is grateful that the political drama became a stepping stone for him. "I have a window where I want to play leading parts," he said. Now, viewers can watch him play Cottonmouth, the villain on "Luke Cage."
