'Narcos' Star Paulina Gaitan Is A Drug-Addicted Sexpot In 'Diablo Guardian' Drama; Series To Air On Netflix Competition Site

"Narcos" star Paulina Gaitan, who played Tata Escobar in the first and second season of the Netflix show, is moving on to a different project. She snagged the leading role in "Diablo Guardian," as a drug addict from an upper class family. The series will be airing on a Netflix competition platform called Blim.

Many of cast from the first and second seasons of "Narcos" -- such as Paulina Gaitan -- are expectedly no longer part of the next chapter. Since it has been announced that "Narcos" is shifting its story to the Cali Cartel following the death of Pablo Escobar, it's unlikely for Tata Escobar to still be a part of the upcoming season.

Paulina Gaitan is already in the middle of production for "Diablo Guardian" after her stint on "Narcos." The show is an adaptation of a bestselling novel written by Xavier Velasco. It will be aired in Mexico on the streaming site Blim in both Spanish and English, with a potential for international release.

According to Tomatazos, "Diablo Guardian" follows Violetta (Paulina Gaitan), a young Mexican woman who steals money from her parents to go to New York. While there, she lives a life of luxury by seducing men and peddling drugs. It's a complete departure from the role of Tata Escobar on "Narcos" as Paulina Gaitan is apparently uninhibited in this new show. Xavier Velasco is reportedly pleased with his story's lead star, whose characterization was slightly tweaked for the television version.

"Diablo Guardian" is planned for two seasons with 10 episodes each, Variety reports. The show will hopefully boost Blim's programming as it did with "Narcos" for Netflix.

Since "Narcos" shot up to popularity on the global streaming site, Latin American original content has increasingly become hot property. "There is a production boom and a diversification of projects in Mexico, which used to be so closed," Francisco Gonzalez Compean, the producer of "Diablo Guardian" said.

"Narcos" on Netflix is expected to return sometime 2017. "Diablo Guardian" is also set for a 2017 release on Blim. Keep checking back to this site for more updates about the TV shows.
