IMDb has listed a tally of the blockbuster movie adaptations of several video games and the top five has been detailed below. Also included in the top 25 are "Pokémon 3: The Movie," "Super Mario Bros.," "Doom," "Street Fighter" and "Resident Evil."

"Lara Croft: Tomb Raider." Topping the list of highest-grossing video game movies is the "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider." The movie was released on 2001 and earned a domestic total gross of $131,168,070. Angelina Jolie played the titular role Lara Croft, which became an iconic character and added much gain to her popularity. Fans can recall the movie's tagline: "Born into wealth. Groomed by the elite. Trained for combat." The next "Tomb Raider" film reboot will star Alicia Vikander.

"The Angry Birds Movie." Ranking second in the highest video game movies is "The Angry Birds Movie." This delightful movie earned a domestic total gross of $107,509,366 when it was released this year. The movie starred Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad and Danny McBride.

"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." The movie adaptation of the historic-themed video game "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" landed third in the top five highest video game movies list. The movie featured Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley in the lead cast. "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" had $90,759,676 domestic total gross sales when it was released in 2010. Although it landed high as top 3, the movie seems to have lost much as the report also says the movie has spent $200 million in production.

"Pokémon: The First Movie - Mewtwo Strikes Back." The pocket monsters also hopped on board the top video game movies in its movie adaptation titled "Pokémon: The First Movie - Mewtwo Strikes Back." The movie landed number 4 and earned more than double its production cost of $30 million as the list reported $85,744,662 domestic total gross when it was released in 1998. The movie had "Prepare for the greatest match ever" for its tagline.

"Mortal Kombat." To complete the top 5, we have "Mortal Kombat" movie which was released in 1995. The movie earned $70,454,098 domestic total gross income. The movie starred Christopher Lambert, Robin Shou and Linden Ashby. "Mortal Kombat" dropped an intense tagline: "Nothing in this world has prepared you for this!"
