‘The Blacklist’ Showrunner Debunks The “Mommy Theory” Finds It "Wild" Theory!

Much talks have come out regarding the lineage of Liz (played by Megan Boone). Here's a fan theory that showrunner Jon Bokenkamp has discussed in an interview.

The previous midseason finale left an intriguing cliffhanger when Red (James Spader) told Kirk that he is the father of Liz. To make things intense, Red also whispered something to Kirk which stopped the latter from proceeding to kill the former. Unfortunately, viewers did not hear what Red has whispered. Also, the episode did not confirm Red's statement as he seems to be bluffing Kirk to be Liz' father.

Fans are now very anxious to know about the real parents of Liz. This anticipation resulted to much theories regarding Liz' lineage. Some speculated that Red told Kirk that he has a child somewhere, while others say Red told Kirk that Liz' mother Katarina Rostova (played by Lotte Verbeek) is still alive.

The fan theory that became most popular is the one known as the "Mommy Theory" where a fan speculated that Red may not be the father of Liz, because Red told Kirk that he is actually Liz' mom Katarina. Fans can recall that Red was previously known as Katarina Rostova, TVGuide reported.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Jon Bokenkamp quipped he finds the "Mommy Theory" to be funny. Bokenkamp even called it a "wild" theory. The showrunner also joked that he would be interested to hear the logic behind how Red could possibly be the mother of Liz.

Furthermore, Jon Bokenkamp also shared that he has heard other fan theories like Liz is the sister of Tom, Ressler is the brother of Tom and that Liz is actually a robot. The showrunner even vouched the creativity of the fans and labeled the speculations as "great theories."

"The Blacklist" will air on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 10 p.m. on NBC. Let us know your wild guesses on what Red could have whispered to Kirk!
