Getting around building the squirrel feeder

For years, the wife of Jay Barr has been feeding the squirrels. The dad was nagging the wife about it because he thinks that the squirrels might wreck the house's attic or other parts.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the father and daughter duo decided to make unique squirrel feeders. He said in an article for CBC, "Once COVID started and really having nothing to do around the home, she sent me a picture of somebody who had made a squirrel feeder and asked me if I could make it."

The requests for squirrel feeders

At first, the father and daughter duo made a squirrel feeder for the dad's in-laws. After quite some time, neighbors also started to request for their feeders.

Orders started to pile. The daughter shared, "We started taking peoples' orders at that point."

What started as a joke for the father and daughter duo became a backyard business that they never expected. Jaila said, "We had gotten so many positive comments, with people saying they would buy them and that they were super cute."

100 feeders in 4 months

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the duo had much time on their hands. The two were able to conceptualize cool designs that customers loved.

At the same time, they were able to create at least 100 unique squirrel feeders.

The creations of the duo have reached places like Lucan, London, and Toronto.

The price of the feeders starts at 50 US Dollars. The expectation of the duo was that they are going to earn a few hundred bucks. However, after four months, they have started to earn at least 4,500 US Dollars.

The feeders are made of scavenged wood from the beach.

According to Jay, the materials for the squirrel feeders are cheap. Most of the wood used is recycle and comes from the beach. He said, "Most of the wood came from the beach, either driftwood or lumber coming in from high water levels. Everything's reused, recycled."
