The alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, parents are hesitant to allow their kids to go trick-or-treating like they used to in the previous years. When Winter learned about this, she immediately thought of an alternative for the kids in their community.

She shared with GMA, "It made me really sad ... if we do this in Denver too. There has to be a better way to do it."

The idea was inspired by the "Happy Graduation" signs which were put up during the graduation season. She thought that instead of signs, candies may be stuck out the front yard for kids to collect, instead of knocking on the front door. This way, there is no physical interaction between the kids and their neighbors.

Testing out the idea

To be able to know if her neighbors will be on board with the idea, the Colorado mom tried it out on her front yard first. She glued or taped the candies to a stick and stuck them to the ground.

When the Colorado mom's neighbors noticed her alternative, they hopped to the idea. Winter said, "We are going to a 'candy sticking' across the block so the older neighbors can come out on their front porch."
