Nursing Mom Humiliated On Flight Launches Online Campaign

A mother who was breastfeeding her four-month old daughter was shamed on a United Airlines flight. She was called "disgusting," which made her cry, and then later started to express her anger and frustration towards the airline by starting the social media campaign #MomsDontFlyUnited.

Juliet Thomson, 28, was on her way to Salt Lake City from LA with her daughter Charlie. According to the Daily Mail, Juliet said her daughter had just finished being breastfed and she was only lying on her chest. She was sure she wasn't showing any skin.

She then heard another passenger complain to a mail steward and told him to tell Juliet to put some clothes on. Minutes later, a stewardess came up to Juliet and said, "I know that breastfeeding is natural and it's normal to do it, but this other passenger is really offended by it, so if you wouldn't mind covering up, it seems your child is sleeping."

The very angry Thomson refused to follow what the stewardess told her, instead she told the stewardess that the main reason her daughter isn't throwing a fit during flights is because she breastfeeds her. However, before she can finish explaining to the stewardess the passenger who complained started shouting, and called Thomson's breastfeeding "disgusting."

Appalled by what she heard and didn't know what else to do as people were already starting to look at her, Juliet stayed hidden under a blanket while she nursed Charlie, Yahoo Parenting reported. She also explained in a Facebook video that not even a sight of her breast was showing, but she caved in to the stewardess' request because half the plane was already aware of what was going on and she was already utterly embarrassed.

This is not the first time that a nursing mother has been called out over breastfeeding on the flight. She was kicked out from a Virgin Atlantic flight because she refused to stop nursing her 10-month old son. Thomson launched her online campaign to share what she experienced and with the number of people responding to her campaign, it is safe to say that she is not alone in her sentiments.
