Proper Grade School Behavior: 5 Things That Parents Should Not Allow Their Grade Schoolers To Do

Grade schoolers are kids aged 5 to 12. Some parents who have grade school children allow their kids to learn, explore and have as much fun as they want.

However, there are some things that parents should not allow their grade schoolers to do, according to iMom. These tips can help parents protect their kids from different kinds of harm and danger.

1. Using gadgets without supervision.

When kids start to get uneasy and tireless, many parents decide to hand iPads or iPhones to their kids in order to calm them down. However, doing so can expose kids to expletive and inappropriate content as well as potentially dangerous apps or sites. YouTube, Facebook and other popular sites can expose your kids to harmful content.

Make sure that you are always beside your kid while using a gadget in order to provide proper supervision. Using appropriate parental control settings on your gadgets while the child is playing is also recommended.

2. Staying up late.

Adequate sleep promotes proper growth and healthy heart; prevents obesity; strengthens the immune system; prevents injuries; increases focus and concentration; and helps kids perform better at school, according to PARENTS. Parents need to make sure that their grade schoolers get 10 to 12 hours of sleep every night.

3. Getting exposed to grown-up things.

Some parents allow their kids to watch, listen and observe to grown-up conversations, books, TV shows, movies, pictures and videos. Make sure that your kids are only exposed to age-appropriate content that will not harm their thoughts, emotions, behavior and personality.

4. Too much multi-tasking.

"So avoid getting caught up in the travel-ball craze (don't worry, your child can skip travel teams and still be a great athlete), extra academic tutoring, or intense music lessons," according to iMom. "Let your little child be a little child and try not to stress that you're not giving him enough 'opportunities' to develop his talents."

5. Become vain and superficial.

Some kids nowadays are becoming too worried about their physical appearance, hairstyle, clothes and shoes. Kids should focus on studying, acquiring values, staying healthy, learning discipline and practicing proper grade school behavior.
