Cancer Diet Tips: 7 Cancer-Fighting Foods

Diet is a crucial ammunition to fight a battle against cancer and other illnesses. Having the right diet can augment the survival and inhibits cancer from returning. Some plant-based food contain cancer-fighting substances. If you eat these food, you will reduce the risk of having cancer and will have no fear of this killer disease.

"The easiest, least-expensive way to reduce your risk of cancer is just by eating a healthy diet," said Rachel Stolzenberg-Solomon, PhD, MPH, RD, a researcher at the National Cancer Institute. Cancer-fighting food can make a drastic change for many individuals.

You must have a goal of five to nine daily servings of these food that fight cancer. Everyday Health and Health listed the following cancer-fighting food:

1. Berries

Do not hesitate to eat your favorite berries such as strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. They have powerful antioxidants, which can terminate the process in the body that produces free radicals that can be harmful to your cells. They also contain compounds that keep cancer cells from spreading.

2. Cruciferous Vegetables

Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage have components that can guard you against free radicals that damage your cell's DNA. They kill the cancerous cells and alleviate the growth of tumors.

3. Garlic

Garlic can prevent you from stomach, esophagus and colon cancers. It has ingredients that can keep cancer cells from growing and may keep cancer-causing substances in your body from manufacturing. A clove of garlic a day is recommended.

4. Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant. They also have that juicy red orbs that protect the DNA in your cells from damaging that may lead to cancer. Tomatoes may also lower the risk of prostate cancer.

5. Turmeric

According to the American Cancer Society, the curcumin, which is the orange-colored spice in turmeric can help reduce the risk of cancer and can slow the growth of cancer.

6. Leafy Green Vegetables

Leafy green vegetables such as lettuce and spinach have chemicals that may limit the growth of cancer cells, according to the American Institutes for Cancer Research. They also contain antioxidant beta-carotene and lutein.

7. Whole Grains

Whole grains have antioxidants and fiber that may lower the risk of cancer, according to the American Institute for Cancer Research. These include brown rice, oatmeal, pasta, whole bread and barley.
