Can You Live Without A Smartphone For 7 Days? This Guy Did And Found Something Disturbing

Can you live without a smartphone? One man tried to live without a smartphone for seven days and he discovered something weird and disturbing in the process.

Yahoo reported about a guy who opted not to use his iPhone for seven days. He noticed some things which he was previously oblivious about. He saw so many people looking at their screens even when they're walking on the street. The same thing happens at his workplace, elevators, stairs, you name it.

Using Smartphone Linked To Road Danger

According to a scientific study of Jack Nasar, and Ohio State University professor, he found that individuals who look at their screens are 48 percent more likely to find themselves in danger on the road. This was the result of a study conducted in 2008.

Aside from this, Nasar made a follow-up study in 2013 where he found that the number of pedestrian injuries increased significantly between 2004 and 2010. This comes as no surprise especially when people walking the sidewalks are locked on to their screens.

Another study in 2015 involving phone use yielded disturbing results. It was found that those who were phone-free did not veer off their paths. They also walked faster compared to those who were not scree-free. These findings simply showed that being screen-free helps you avoid accidents at a higher rate compared to those who are locked on to their screens while navigating the streets.

Truly Liberating

According to Stuff, living without a smartphone can be liberating. Other than being able to walk straight on the road, you don't feel the pressure of having to reply to emails or monitor statuses on social media. One downside though is that you have to explain why you would be sporting a low-tech phone instead of a smartphone.

So can you live without a smartphone? Well, you surely can! Think about your safety and the stress-free environment that you will find yourself in. But of course, many of you might not totally agree. What's your take? Can you live without your smartphone?
