Diet Tips: Paleo Diet Increases Obesity Risk

Paleo diet is said to be one of the most effective diet plans. Recent studies revealed that the restrictive diet can increase obesity risk and type II diabetes.

A study done by Nutrition and Diabetes used mice as their subjects. The mice were given a low carbohydrate and high-fat diet, which is the same as the ones consumed for paleo. By the end of the study, the mice did not only gain weight, but they were also placed at risk for obesity and diabetes.

Though it was also mentioned in the article that mice and humans metabolize their food differently the negative effect on the mice raised concerns. The scientist came into conclusion that the result of the study may be considered dangerous and unhealthy. It was also cited that paleo diet is not advisable as it comes with various health risks.

Yahoo News also mentioned that despite the fact that the mice were not necessarily given the paleo diet, it was revealed that the low-carb and high-fat diet is similar to the paleo program. Scientist cleared out that the body does not have to be deprived of carbs as it is needed by the system to properly function.

It was iterated that one of the things which were not mentioned when it comes to the paleo diet was the mice used in the study. It was cited that the 17 mice used in the study were highly susceptible to weight gain and obesity. The mice in question are referred to New Zealand Obese mice, which is a specific rodent that is predisposed to easily gain weight.

The contradicting reports are still in question, but Yahoo! Pointed out that the mice's pre-existing and pre-dis-positioned conditions were not highlighted. The scientist came into defense that they specifically used the mice for them to point out if the paleo diet is ideal for obese and pre-diabetic individuals.
