Prince George's First Royal Mail Stamp With Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles & Prince William Looks Adorable; But Where's Mommy Kate?

This may be Prince George's first royal duty ever! To honor the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, the Royal Mail produced several royal mail stamps, one of which featured four generations of the royalty family. While the ear-to-ear grin of Prince George took the spotlight, one can't help wonder where mommy Kate Middleton is. Well, she might be the one coaxing the young Prince George to show off a big smile!

Four-Generation Royal Stamp

According to E! Online, the lovely photo of four generations of royals - Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George, was taken in 2015, in the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. The royal photographer, Ranald Mackechnie, said that Prince George needed to stand on a box so that his position would somewhat be equal to the rest of his royal family.

Aesthetic And Technical Reasons

Mackechnie said two reasons were behind Prince George's position on the royal mail stamp. First, it was to enhance the aesthetics of the photo. Second, it was for technical reasons.

Aesthetically speaking, Prince George couldn't possibly stand on the floor while Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Prince William tower above him. As for the technicality, the position of the royal portraits would have to look just right in consideration of the miniature sheet.

"When I found out what the project was I could scarcely believe my ears," said Ranald Mackechnie in Mirror's report. He said that it was an honor and a great opportunity to be able to take a picture of the four generations of the royal family. He also added they spent considerable time thinking about how they would approach the photograph.

Prince George Fascinated By Lights

Funny thing was Mackechnie's instruments initially encountered problems. Prince Charles was sympathetic to him though. While they were trying to figure out how to keep 2-year-old Prince George's attention for the shoot, getting the instruments up and running helped as the little prince was fascinated by the lights.

Aside from the four-generation royal stamp where Prince George was smiling, other royal stamps marking Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday include one royal stamp where the Queen was a child with her father. Another stamp was that of a 1952 photo of the Queen and Princess Anne and Prince Charles. Another is a 1957 photo of the Queen and Prince Philip.
