Parental Abuse, 'Lemonade': Beyonce's Father Forced To Speak Up About Controversial Song 'Daddy Lessons'

Beyonce's "Lemonade" made Matthew Knowles the target of questions on parental abuse. Fans reacted to lyrics in the "Halo" singer's new album "Lemonade," forcing Bey's father, Matthew Knowles, to respond to allegations of parental abuse toward Beyonce.

The controversial lyrics came from the track "Daddy Lessons" from the "Lemonade" album. "Are you a slave to the back of his hand?" Beyonce sang. "Am I talking about your husband or your father?"

The Daily Mail reports that Matthew Knowles, who also used to manage Beyonce up to 2011, had to respond to growing speculations that he was guilty of parental abuse. According to Matthew Knowles, he never hit Beyonce at any point in her life.

Matthew Knowles explained on the Sirius XM show "Make It Plain" that he did not believe in corporal punishment. Beyonce was never a slave as "Daddy Lessons" seemed to suggest. Matthew Knowles also related that he does not know what Beyonce meant in "Daddy Lessons."

Beyonce's father avoided reference to the other subject of "Daddy Lessons," which is a husband. Matthew Knowles declined to speculate that Beyonce may have alternatively meant Jay Z.

Child abuse is a serious issue that is finally receiving serious attention worldwide. According to Child Help, the US has the biggest statistics for child abuse and neglect.

As many as 6.6 million children are involved in child protection agency referrals each year. In 2014 alone, an estimated 702,000 children were determined to be victims of maltreatment.

Matthew Knowles points out that Beyonce may have been singing about human issues in general. In praise for his daughter, Matthew Knowles says that the strength in Beyonce's creativity is the ability to create songs that speak everyone.

As Matthew Knowles suggested "Lemonade" and "Daddy Lessons" may be an attempt by Beyonce to reach out to those who have no voice to speak out about their situations. "Lemonade" may not be an autobiographical work about Beyonce, Jay Z and the mysterious Becky.
