'Xbox One S' and 'Project Scorpio': All You Need To Know About Microsoft's Newest Gaming Consoles

A new product in town would always get tech-savvy hardcores and heavy gamers assessing the practicality and benefits of a possible purchase. Microsoft, gives an exclusive look into the 2016 redesigned version of its well-loved gaming console, Xbox One S, and announces another product scheduled to be launched in 2017, Project Scorpio.

In an almost two-minute video, Microsoft promises gamers an Xbox One S that is slimmer, sleeker, smaller, and sharper. Xbox One S comes with a maximum 2-terabyte internal hard drive, an infrared blaster, an integrated power supply, and a new wireless controller. Moreover, the Xbox One S offers High Dynamic Range (HDR) gaming and a 4K Ultra HD Video and Blu-ray.

The exclusive look of Xbox One S was unveiled in Microsoft's press conference before the E3 2016, Electronic Entertainment Expo, kicks off this week in Los Angeles (via The Guardian). The company announced its release in August and revealed another gaming console, Project Scorpio that will be out by Christmas of next year (via BBC).

Project Scorpio is Microsoft's exclusive 4K gaming console that would support virtual reality (VR). High definition games would run at maximum resolution the whole gaming time. As per Xbox Chief Phil Spencer via The Verge, Project Scorpio will be the "most powerful console ever built."

Spencer also announced that the two consoles, Xbox One S and Project Scorpio, would be closely compatible with Xbox One and other Windows titles. This allows cross-platform multiplayer gaming because Microsoft recognizes that more gamers now use more than one device when playing (via The Guardian).

Moreover, Microsoft also discussed "cross-platform play" during the conference, announcing the new campaign, Xbox Play Anywhere. Gamers can buy only one copy of a game and will already have access to Xbox One and PC versions. This allows gamers to go against other players regardless of the device they are using, whether it be a computer, iPhone or Android. Another good news is that all game releases would be compatible on all Xbox One consoles (via The Guardian).

The Xbox One S can be bought on August wit prices starting at $299 while Project Scorpio is predicted to cost no less than $1,000 (via BBC). According to The Verge, Spencer said Microsoft announced the consoles early so that consumers can make a calculated decision. So better prepare those wallets if you are interested in trying out the new Microsoft gaming consoles.
