Summer is usually a great time to watch movies with your family. But nowadays, it seems to be more of a luxury than a summer pastime.

While summer blockbuster films make so much money with film outfits shoving out movie after movie during the season, it looks like the cash flow only goes one way.

According to the National Association of Theatre Owners, the average price for getting into a good movie theater is t $8.43. Families who like to go out and watch movies a lot could shell out as much as $200 to enjoy all the releases touted for the blockbuster season, and that's not even passing by the concessionaire stand.

Discover your affiliations - students, seniors and military members are already getting discounts from the movies for as much as $2. However if you are not a member in any of those affiliations, you might still be able to get some discounts through the clubs or organization you belong to. Your car insurance might also give perks. Some club members could get as much as 25% - 35% discount for movies alone.

Program for the perks - You can also join a loyalty program that could provide you perks, with rewards for being a returning patron. If you have a child with special needs, you can check Disabled Discount and see what's in store. Your credit card could also give you perks you didn't know exist.

Off times viewing - this could be the matinee, or early bird showing, could get you discounts from watching a movie. Small theaters are also less expensive compared to the bigger ones. Some people save as much as $10 a ticket for doing this. You might also want to consider eating before going to the movies. This will save you from buying concessionaire food items before young into the theater.

Monthly passes - are great way to get group discounts. Movie passes allows viewers to see a movie every 24 hours, for flat rate at only $30. $49 if you're not as lucky. Wholesale clubs are a bit different from movie passes but you can check on that too.

2D screening is good enough - even if IMAX and 3D will give you a movie experience you've always wanted in an entertainment pastime, but 2D screening is already good quality view and more affordable in price. $5 dollar in savings, 2D for the win!
