Demi Lovato Opens Up About Mental Health During Her DNC Speech [WATCH]

Mental health is often over looked as it least prioritized when it comes to health care. During the Democratic National Convention, Demi Lovato opens up her speech as she shared that she struggled with mental health crisis as well.

Demi Lovato made it a point to highlight the risk of unattended mental health struggle as it can lead to a more complicated issue. People who are in need of mental health care assistance should be sought after as their condition (such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and PTSD) can lead to ma more serious problem, including suicide.

"Untreated mental illness can lead to devastating consequences, including suicide, substance abuse and long-term medical issues," Demi Lovato mentioned. "We can do better. Every one of us can do better. By getting educated on this epidemic and its frightening statistics, and by breaking the stigma. I urge every politician to support laws that will provide access to better healthcare, and support for everyone."

The singer-actress then added that her plea to take action in helping the people suffering from mental health issues, Independent reports. It was then added that the problem is beyond politics as immediate action needs to be addressed stating that she is blessed as she has the resources to seek help. Demi Lovato then highlighted that government officials should also seek help to individuals who can't afford the necessary treatments to aid them with their mental health struggles.

"This is not about politics," Lovato said. "It's simply the right thing to do. I'm doing my very small part by having the treatment center that saw me through my recovery on tour with me, so that at least a small group of people, even for a brief moment, can have the same support that I received."
