'Game of Thrones' News Update: 'GOT' to End by Season 8, Spin-Off In The Offing?

"Harry Potter" fans aren't the only ones that were heartbroken as it was announced that "Game of Thrones" is bound to end after its 8th season. HBO recently confirmed that "Game of Thrones" season 8 will be the last season for the blockbuster series.

"Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have already discussed that the series' 8th season is the most appropriate time to end it. Both showrunners have already come up with the storyline as to how it would end, but Entertainment Weekly mentioned that their showrunners' plan were not yet approved.

During an interview with Casey Bloys, HBO's programming president, he confirmed that ending "Game of Thrones" during its 8th season seems appropriate and effective. Bloys also added that ending "Game of Thrones" after its 8th season is their latest plan as to how the series would progress.

"Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do," Casey Bloys. "Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show."

Fans may already be heart-broken upon hearing the end of their well-loves series, but Bloys have not yet confirmed if they've already made an agreement with the "Game of Thrones" show runners. He then added that season 8 may be a good time to end the series, but he did not highlight as to how many episodes the season 8 would have.

"We've talked about it. It's something I'm not opposed to, but of course, it has to make sense creatively," Bloys said. "I'm not sure that [Benioff and Weiss] could really wrap their heads around it when they're just about to start production [on season 7]... The guys weren't opposed to it, but there're no concrete plans for it at this point."

As the last season of "Game of Thrones" is being discussed, speculations about the spin-off emerged as well. ABC reports that a "Game of Thrones" spinoff may be possible, but it needs to be done creatively as the series raised the bar when it comes to the fans' expectation and standards.
