‘Wayward Pines’ Season 3 Premiere Date, News & Update: Fox Blake Crouch Series Sequel To Compete With ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2?

Although 'Wayward Pines' Season 3 from Fox, based on a Blake Crouch trilogy of the same title, has yet to make it out of TV purgatory, the sequel for the humans versus Abbies (Aberrations) could compete with Netflix original "Stranger Things." Unknown to many "Wayward Pines" fans, brothers Ross and Matt Duffer produced and wrote the Fox series before breaking out with "Stranger Things."

//FILM reports that the Duffer brothers wrote and produced for "Wayward Pines" Season 1. According to the media outlet, M. Night Shyamalan hired Ross and Matt Duffer for "Wayward Pines" Season 1 after the Fox series executive producer read the "Stranger Things" creators' screenplay for a film called "Hidden."

Movie Pilot points out that similar to "Stranger Things," Ross and Matt Duffer reflected their influences on "Wayward Pines" Season 1. Among the strongest influence that Ross and Matt Duffer brought into "Wayward Pines" Season 1 is "Twin Peaks" of the 1990s.

Many a fan waiting for Fox to confirm "Wayward Pines" Season 3 hopes to see the same pizzaz of S1 that S2 lacked. With the success of "Stranger Things," and the shaky ratings that "Wayward Pines" Season 2 earned, Fox and M Night Shyamalan could return S3 to the formula that made the Blake Crouch adaptation a success.

"Wayward Pines" Season 3 could see a release that puts it in competition with "Stranger Things" Season 2. Such a competition of sorts between "Wayward Pines" Season 3 and "Stranger Things" Season 2, which are both sci-fi series, would make for an interesting watch.

As Parent Herald cites, fans of the Fox series can anticipate "Wayward Pines" Season 3 to deal with the evolution of Abbies into another form of enemy that threatens human existence. According to Blake Crouch, the point of "Wayward Pines" Season 3 is not so much the horror from the Abbies and their evolved form, as the response of humans in the face of inevitable extinction.

With confirmation on S3 still pending from Fox, "Wayward Pines" Season 3 could see a 2017 release date. Which aspects of S1 would you want "Wayward Pines" Season 3 to bring back?
