'MacGyver' Series Premiere News & Updates: Life Hacker's Revival Aims To Save The World With New Team

"MacGyver" was perhaps the first to introduce the best life hacks via television in the 80s and the popular show is getting a revival on CBS. Set to premiere on Friday, Sept. 23, the rebooted series is introducing Lucas Till in the titular role. But to set it apart from the original, the new "MacGyver" will be saving the world with a team of experts supporting him.

TV Line reports that Lucas Till in "MacGyver" will have a former CIA sidekick this time around. The role will be played by George Eads as Jack Dalton. It should be noted that the character did appear in the 80s series in a slightly different capacity. As Angus MacGyver's friend, Dalton seemed to bring nothing but complications, per MacGyver Online.

Also helping out in the new "MacGyver" team is Sandrine Holt as Patricia Thorton. Variety reports that the character works with the Department of External Services (DXS). The show also has Tristin Mays playing Riley Davis, the resident tech expert, as well as Justin Hires playing Bozer, the roommate and best friend.

Based on these characters, the new "MacGyver" is obviously a big deviation from the original. The people behind the show also promised that viewers will be watching something they have "never seen before," per WRBL.

However, the new show did retain the fact that MacGyver is still a master life hacker who shuns guns, explosives and violence. He will continue to rely on his analytical mind, vast knowledge of science and skills for the getting out of a fix or saving the world. Interestingly enough, Lucas Till admitted he's actually into science and her mother works as a chemist. "I definitely paid attention to my physics class," the "MacGyver" told 13maz.
