'The Good Wife' Spinoff Adds Eli Gold's Daughter; Plot Details, February Release, Kings Take Charge & Everything To Know

"The Good Wife" spinoff on CBS All Access is taking shape and more details have been released about what viewers can expect when the show debuts in February 2017. What will the show deliver now that it has been confirmed that Robert & Michelle King are taking charge? Read on below for everything to know.

Sarah Steele, who played Eli Gold's daughter in the original series for four seasons, is joining Christine Baranski (as Diane Lockhart) and Cush Jumbo (as Lucca Quinn) to reprise Marissa. Her character in "the Good Wife" spinoff will work as Lockhart's secretary, who will discover that she's got a knack for doing investigative work.

According to Deadline, Marissa's new job will "follow in the footsteps of Kalinda and Robyn." These two women had been "The Good Wife's" clever investigators. Jess Weixler, who played Robyn in the original series, has previously expressed her willingness to become part of "The Good Wife" spinoff as well, per a previous Parent Herald report. Archie Panjabi, who played Kalinda, is now a series regular in "Blindspot."

"The Good Wife" spinoff will follow Diane Lockhart a year after the original series' end. Diane ends up moving to Chicago following a financial scandal that has wiped out her bank account and had her kicked out of her own law firm. She has no recourse but to start anew in another city to join Lucca, with her new protégé in tow. The show has not yet announced who has been cast as the protégé in "The Good Wife" spinoff.

The news comes as "The Good Wife" spinoff has officially added the Kings as showrunners, when the original plan was to have someone else develop the spinoff. The husband-wife writing team, who have been critically-acclaimed for their work on "The Good Wife" for seven years, had Phil Robertson taking over in the spinoff series then, per The Hollywood Reporter. The Kings and Robertson will now work side by side as showrunners.

"The Good Wife" spinoff debut episode will be airing on CBS by February 2017, per TV Guide. However, succeeding episodes, which are composed of only 10, will be accessible via CBS All Access subscription streaming. Keep checking back to Parent Herald for the updates.
