'Allied' Release Date & News: Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard Affair Rumors Spark As New Movie Is Compared To 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'

The Brad Pitt-Marion Cotillard starrer, "Allied," is hitting U.S. theaters on Nov. 23. The movie's premise might look familiar to fans of Brad Pitt and his soon-to-be ex-wife Angelina Jolie, as "Allied" is a lot like the former couple's first movie together, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

Set during World War II, "Allied" is about spies who meet, fall in love, then become husband and wife, per Slash Film. But their union begins to have cracks when they realize that they could be double-crossing each other as spies, as the war breaks out in London.

"Mr. & Mrs. Smith," which was released in 2005, was also about spies. Like "Allied," the main characters were married to each other, then turned against each other. It was in this movie that Brad and Angelina fell in love in real life, causing the breakdown of Brad Pitt's marriage to Jennifer Aniston back then.

Page Six alluded that similar to what went on in the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" set, the actor had an affair with Marion Cotillard while doing "Allied." The news outlet suggested that this is actually why Angelina Jolie is now seeking a divorce. However, Cotillard's camp is denying the allegations, citing that she's committed to her long-time partner Guillaume Canet.

As the Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt divorce is becoming the focus of headlines, Vulture wonders what Paramount would do to promote "Allied" given the circumstances. With the actors' real life problems coming into play, will Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard be making the press rounds together?

News about the high-profile Hollywood divorce came at a time when "Allied's" first TV spot was scheduled to drop on NBC. However, the 60-second TV ad for the movie was long planned by Paramount, per The Hollywood reporter. It was coincidence that Brad Pitt's wife decided to tell the world about their divorce on the same day.

"Allied" also stars Lizzy Caplan, Matthew Goode, Jared Harris, Charlotte Hope and Raffey Cassidy. The movie is directed by Robert Zemeckis. Watch the teaser to "Allied" below.
