'Code Black' Season 2 Premiere, News & Update: Angel Memorial Welcomes Rob Lowe's Col. Ethan Willis, Sets Big Changes

Rob Lowe is scrubbing in for the second season of "Code Black" on CBS. The actor will literally dive for the role, as one of his first scenes in the medical drama series involves a beach rescue where a patient has been attacked by a shark.

"Code Black" Season 2, which premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 10:00 p.m. on CBS, is introducing Rob Lowe's character, Col. Ethan Willis, as a combat doctor. He's going to work side by side with Angel Memorial's best trauma doctor, Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden).

"They both are risk takers so they're both probably slightly reckless," said Rob Lowe about his and his co-star's "Code Black" characters, via Entertainment Weekly. "So when we meet it's a meeting of behavior, of the minds, of attitudes, of skill. So they get along really great actually."

But it's not just Col. Ethan Willis who is the newest addition on "Code Black" as the show is also bringing in three new residents. One of them is characterized as former child star, Charlotte Piel (Nafessa Williams), who is out to prove that she can do greater things.

"Not a lot of people at the hospital are taking her serious because she's a movie star," Williams told Madame Noire about her character. "But she wants to be taken serious as a doctor." Williams will be joined by Noah Gray-Cabey and Emily Tyra as the hospital newbies.

Meanwhile, the ER trauma team has a new head in Dr. Campbell (Boris Kodjoe), who was introduced in "Code Black" Season 1. His character taking the post essentially demotes Dr. Rorish and this will be the cause a rift between colleagues. According to TV Insider, Dr. Rorish's new-found friend and ally, Dr. Willis will also be butting heads with Dr. Campbell a lot.

These are just some of the big changes happening in "Code Black" Season 2, but the producers said that that there will be more surprises. Catch the premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 10:00 p.m. on CBS. Watch the preview in the video below.
