‘Supergirl’ Season 2 [SPOILERS, LATEST NEWS UPDATES]: James No Longer Supergirl’s Sidekick? Kara’s Pal Turns Vigilante As DC Comics’ Guardian

An interesting twist is definitely coming in "Supergirl" season 2 as Kara (Melissa Benoist) and James' (Mehcad Brooks) relationship takes a nosedive as the new season continues. What's really kind of baffling, though, is the recent revelation that Supergirl may be losing her ever trusted sidekick.

Following "Supergirl" season 2 premiere on Monday, Oct. 10, the series had a press screening the next day. According to TVLine, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg confirmed that Kara Danvers and James "Jimmy" Olsen's friendship will be tested as the latter decides he can no longer be Supergirl's subordinate.

Kreisberg told DC Comics (via SuperHeroHype) that the upcoming episodes in "Supergirl" season 2 will make James realize that being a photographer not appealing to him anymore and he needs an exciting career change. With that said, he will drop his role as Kara aka Supergirl's sidekick and be a vigilante himself. He will reportedly turn as Guardian, DC Comics' shield-toting vigilante.

James' career change in "Supergirl" season 2, however, will take a toll on his relationship with Kara, who has some personal issues about vigilantes. But as James tries his hand at crime-fighting, he will be leaving his pal, Kara, in the dark while he will enlist Winn's (Jeremy Jordan) help.

Meanwhile, fans could expect more exciting and interesting twists in "Supergirl" season 2 as speculations hint a massive four-show crossover. Screen Rant, however, reported that Kreisberg that the "Supergirl" realm won't be merging with the rest of the Arrowverse yet the show's latest extended trailer suggests a comic book crossover, resulting in the merging of the various worlds.

In addition, there are also some rumors that the Crisis on Infinite Earths plotline will be featured in "Supergirl" season 2. But the publication said it may not happen in the series as it would mean the death of Supergirl.

Elsewhere, "Supergirl" season 2 fans will also get to see more of Supergirl's cousin Clark Kent aka Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) in the series. The Hollywood Reporter also added that Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) is now a recurring guest star instead of being a series regular and will only appear in multiple episodes in "Supergirl" season 2.

Catch "Supergirl" season 2 at 8 p.m. every Mondays on The CW. The series is also expected to return to Sky One in the U.K. on Monday, Oct. 24, Den of Geek noted.
