'Battlefield 1' News & Update: Game Available Now! An Overview Of Its History, Campaign Reviews, And Multiplayer Features

"Battlefield 1" was finally released last October 21, as anticipation turned into fascination. "Battlefield 1" really got the attention and the feedback it deserved.

The game is set during the WW1. Unlike the previous installments, the developers shifted their focus from the main war into the reality of war through the eyes of six soldiers who fought from different sides of the globe.

Introduced in 2002, "Battlefield" series has become a household name when it comes to the first-person shooter (FPS) genre, providing detailed maps that serve as a playground for players, promoting cooperative gameplay. The first installment "Battlefield 1942" showcased two global teams (Axis and Allied) that is composed of 5 countries (Allied Team = USA, UK, and the Soviet Union while Axis Team = Germany and Japan) and 5 Roles (Scout, Assault, Engineer, Medic, and Anti-Tank) that the players can choose from.

Over time, as evolution took hold of the technology and its audience, innovation and other features were also added to the title. However, these changes turned "Battlefield" into a redundant shadow of its competition, "Call of Duty" series, getting average reviews and publicity which made the developers shift their focus into the concrete jungle with the release of "Battlefield: Hardline" in 2015.

The game was focused on the "Cops and Robbers" type of gameplay, getting an average review for the campaign mode. But the multiplayer which was the foundation of the franchise was overlooked.

Fast forward to the present, announced last May 16, 2016, "Battlefield 1" promised a new kind of gameplay from the previous installment. The official reveal trailer went viral, garnering 47 million views, and has turned into one of the most anticipated first-person games of 2016.

Recent reviews gave nothing but praise for the game. Chris Plante of the Verge states: "Its design flaunts rich ideas from a decade worth of rigorous development, but perhaps more importantly, abandons many of the bad habits and assumptions accumulated along the way. It knows when to borrow from its contemporaries to cover its weaknesses, and when to ignore trends to showcase its many unique strengths."

Overall, "Battlefield" series somehow freed itself from the influence of its competitors and stood its ground from previous criticisms. They learned and innovated themselves to once again become one of the best in the genre, providing one of the most authentic, jaw-dropping simulations in the video game industry today.
