'Mafia 3' Latest News Update: Racism In The Hangar 13 Game Boon Or Bane?

There is a great divide regarding how fans are accepting the portrayal of racism in "Mafia 3." Since the release of the Hangar game early this month, gamers could not help but notice how straightforward it has been in depicting racial prejudice in the 1960s American era.

Unequivocally, "Mafia 3" has been highly regarded for its seamless gameplay and entertaining back story. Yet, throughout the hours of "Mafia 3" gameplay, most of the scenes feature racially offensive lines and portrayals from NPCs. One example of which, according to The Guardian, is when the protagonist Lincoln Clay got the security guard job, yet some white man complained that a "nigger" got the job instead of him.

Being a man of color, the author of the review has lauded the game, not because of the violence in "Mafia 3" towards white men, but because of its rejection of the white supremacy. His side, along with other people, thinks that this true-to-life depiction of how racism works in the streets isn't how things should still be, given that it's already more than half a century past the timeline of "Mafia 3."

On the other hand, Kotaku reports that other critics think that "Mafia 3" is shedding the wrong light regarding racism. While it has been a bold move to depict how ruthless racism is, it was reported that it "Mafia 3" has gone overboard and became brutally honest.

A critic from Paste Magazine said that "Mafia 3" has portrayed racism with force and that it should be left out in the past. "It's all cathartic because we live in a time where a powerful man is allowed to run for the highest public office on the ideals of the enemies you face in this game," one review read, "ideals that should be forgotten detritus from our shameful past."
