Pregnancy Tips: Know The Best Age Gap Between Siblings

It is every parent's wish to see their children growing up harmoniously as they look out for each other. It is, however, a make or break decision as the children's age gap does matter in terms of their relationship. There are pros and cons when it comes to setting up a specific age gap when it comes to having children, but it was mentioned that have 2-3 year after each pregnancy is ideal.

Parents who are planning to have a big family with at least two kids are often caught in contemplation as to when they would have baby number two. Having a second, third and fourth child requires a lot of preparation as age gaps can be very challenging.

Warren Cann, a psychologist, shared that it is ideal to consider age gaps when it comes to having children, as per Practical Parenting. It was mentioned that age gaps between two to four years often cause the worst sibling rivalry and conflict. It was then added that less jealousy and conflict could occur if the children have gaps for more than five years or less than 18 months.

"Studies have shown that waiting 18 to 23 months after the birth of your last child before conceiving is ideal," Warren Cann stated. "As there can be health complications for both mother and baby where the interval between birth and conception is very short, and also when it is very long - five years or more."

Parents also released a breakdown of the pros and cons per age group. It was mentioned that children who are only one to two years apart can give off advantages as they can share almost everything, and it's easier for them to adjust with new siblings. As for children who are two years apart, however, it was mentioned that this age gap has the strongest sibling rivalry.
