Lenovo Phab2 Pro Specs & Features: The First Google Tango Phone. Is It Worth Buying?

Google is aggressively making its foray on the smartphone market. This year alone, the company introduced Google's Pixel. Now, with the collaboration with Lenovo and its Google Tango technology, Google is releasing to the market Lenovo Phab2 Pro.

Lenovo Phab2 Pro has a 6.4-inch display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. It boasts of having 4GB RAM with a 652 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Lenovo Phab2 Pro has an internal storage of 64GB and expandable memory up to 256GB with the micro SD slot and dual-SIM tray. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The phone also has a 4050mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery. Lenovo Phab2 Pro also has an 8MP front-facing camera and 16MP back camera. Lenovo Phab2 Pro is currently available through the official Lenovo web store and at Lowe's and sells for $499.

You'd ask yourself, why buy a $499 phone with middle-tier specifications? With that kind of money, you can buy an even better smartphone. What makes Lenovo Phab2 Pro worth buying? The answer is its 16MP camera.

Lenovo Phab2 Pro's 16MP camera supports Google Tango technology. Google Tango is a depth-sensing technology. It supports 3D mapping and augmented reality. Lenovo Phab2 Pro is the first-ever phone to support Google Tango.

Basically, it's like experiencing virtual reality without the use of a VR headset. Lenovo Phab2 Pro tracks and measures your surroundings and like augmented reality, displays something as if it is there right in front of you. There are currently 35 apps supporting Google Tango available in the Google Play store.

Google hopes that the Lenovo Phab2 Pro would just be the beginning of Google Tango supporting phones to be available in the market. Johnny Lee, Director of Engineering for Tango, says 3D mapping, augmented reality supporting smartphones will be the future. Even Google Tango's product director, Nikhil Chandhok sees Google Tango as an essential technology for the next smartphones.

What do you think? Would you shell out $499 for a phone? Or will you be waiting for a better version of Lenovo Phab2 Pro?
