Next 'Assassin's Creed' Already In The Works But A 2017 Launch Date Is Uncertain; 'Watch Dogs 2' Pre-Orders Still Available

Ubisoft mentioned two of their hit video games, "Watch Dogs" and "Assassin's Creed" during the management's earnings call. They announced the pre-orders of "Watch Dogs 2" and the development of the next "Assassin's Creed" title.

"The preorders are not as high as we thought they could be but we feel like the experience is a fantastic experience so we feel it can do extremely well," said CEO Yves Guillemot about the imminent "Watch Dogs 2."

CFQ Alain Martinez further explained that the preorders do not necessarily reflect in the sales of the game. He added that Ubisoft has been exerting efforts to support titles by adding new content updates that would apparently be rooted from the fans' feedback. This would largely contribute to the success of the game after it has long been released.

"What we are trying to say are preorders are indeed very important, quality is very important, but also the attention that you put on the game over the long term is also very very key," Martinez added.

When Guillemot was asked about any update on the next "Assassin's Creed" title, he said that they cannot say much about it just now. What is certain is that the game is already in the works, and it will be released once ready. He described that the next "Assassin's Creed" is a "great game" and is "looking good."

It is unusual for Ubisoft to release the next "Assassin's Creed" this year, though "The Ezio Trilogy" is about to come out this month. The next "Assassin's Creed" is believed to be situated in Egypt and will be launched sometime in 2017. However, Ubisoft has yet to confirm the release date.

Previous reports state that Ubisoft editorial VP Tommy Francois disclosed the game's progress when he said that both "Far Cry" and "Assassin's Creed" are already in development, but they cannot guarantee a 2017 release.

"We believe Alpha for these games needs to be one year before release," he said. "We're trying to achieve that. That's super f***ing blunt, I don't even know if I'm allowed to say this. This is the goal we're going for: Alpha one year before, more quality, more polish. So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin's game or a Far Cry [in 2017], f*** it."
