‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Spoilers & Latest News: Musical Score Completed, New BTS Photo! Everything Confirmed So Far

"Sherlock" Season 4 is only two months away and fans are undoubtedly excited for the return of the iconic duo of Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman). While many are hopeful for Season 5, the future of the highly popular BBC series beyond its fourth season is up in the air.

"Sherlock" music composer, David G. Arnold, recently provided an update on the much awaited Season 4. Arnold and his team just finished the musical score of "Sherlock" Season 4 just in time for its January 1 premiere date. Check out Arnold's updates via Twitter below.

"Sherlock" Season 4 has three episodes in total: "The Six Thatchers," "The Lying Detective," with the third episode's title still unknown at this point, Parent Herald previously reported. As usual, all Season 4 episodes are adapted from classic detective stories from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

"Sherlock" co-creator Mark Gatiss, who also plays the genius detective's older brother Mycroft Holmes in the series, revealed that the upcoming season will be the show's darkest but it will also feature comical relief. Amanda Abbington will reprise her role as Mary Morstan in the new season, while Sacha Dhawan, James Holmes, and Daniel Hoffmann-Gill serve as guest stars.

"Sherlock" Season 4 will feature a new villain to be portrayed by Toby Jones, TVLine reported. Moriarty (Andrew Scott), the detective's nemesis, is expected to return as well in some form or another.

Despite the series' uncertain future beyond Season 4, lead star Cumberbatch still wants to "keep revisiting" "Sherlock." Cumberbatch also said in an earlier interview with Variety that "Sherlock" Season 4 will go to "a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately."

The "Doctor Strange" actor added that Season 4 may seem as the last installment now but the whole crew has adopted the "never say never" approach. They are all willing to do more episodes but only "if it's right," USA Today reported. Check out a behind-the-scene photo of Cumberbatch as Sherlock below.

"Sherlock" Season 4 will premiere on BBC One and PBS Masterpiece. What do you think about the upcoming season? Should the show hang its hat after Season 4, or should it continue for Season 5? Share your thoughts and watch the trailer below.
