VR News & Updates: 'Skybound Entertainment' and 'Delusion' Working on New Horror VR Series; Not Based on ‘The Walking Dead’?

With Virtual Reality (VR) technology gaining popularity nowadays, "Skybound Entertainment," the company who produced the hit TV series "The Walking Dead," and interactive horror theater company Delusion will come together to create a new terrifying horror VR series.

According to the Verge, the horror VR series will not be based on "The Walking Dead" universe. Instead will be based on "Lies Within," a 2014 Delusion production and written and directed by the interactive theater company creator Jon Braver.

"Lies Within" is a story about a dark fantasy novelist who suddenly disappeared, and audiences will play as the novelist's avid fans on a search for their favorite novelist. After breaking into the novelist's home, audiences will realize that reality and fantasy have become closely mixed inside the house.

Audiences will have the ability to shape their experience and how the story will progress in the VR series based on the decisions they make at certain points in the story. According to the Variety, Braver approached Skybound with the intention of turning Delusion's interactive series into a comic book, but Skybound believed that the Virtual Reality experience works far better for the horror genre and would make for an even scarier experience.

"Delusion" has been around since 2011 and has had numerous interactive plays already. Some notable interactive plays include "His Crimson Queen" and "The Blood Rite." Delusion uses interaction and immersion during their plays, allowing actors to interact with theater actors, solving puzzles, and moving from room to room as the story progresses around them.

Skybound Entertainment, along with Witty Acronym, will begin shooting for the horror VR series early 2017. Because the medium is still relatively new, knowing the appeal and attention of audiences when it comes to VR content is important in order to utilize audience participation.
