Steve Francis Former Houston Rockets Faces Felony Charges After DWI Arrest; Ex-NBA All-Star Facing Extradition?

Former Houston Rockets Steve Francis was arrested in the weekend on a DWI charge. Right now, the ex-NBA All-Star is facing extradition to Manatee County, Flo., after an alleged robbery amounting to $7,252 outside a restaurant last June 15. In addition, Steve Francis has been charged with felony retaliation because he allegedly threatened a police officer. 

Yahoo Sports News reported that former NBA All-star and Houston Rockets Steve Francis was stopped for speeding by a Precinct 5 deputy around 11:20 p.m. Francis was reportedly traveling at 88 mph in a 65 mph zone.

The deputy smelled alcohol and reported that former Houston Rockets Steve Francis was aggressive. Three additional deputies were called to the scene and tried to get the ex-NBA All-Star to park his black 2017 Chevy Tahoe in a parking lot, but Francis was stubborn.

However, there was no physical confrontation on the incident but deputies said that the ex-NBA All-Star did refuse a field sobriety test. He was also charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), marijuana possession, and retaliation. There was latter Felony charge coming after Francis allegedly vowed revenge against the police.

According to USA Today, the Former NBA Star Francis was previously arrested for DWI in 2001 while he was still playing for the Houston Rockets. Steve Francis' issues with alcohol have been well documented, including the 2014 video of him pouring a bottle over his own head at a nightclub. Associates have spoken publicly about how the former Houston Rockets Steve Francis' life after basketball contributed to his issues with alcohol.

Luckily, ex-NBA All-Star Steve Francis was released on $5,500 bond and is scheduled for further arraignment on Wednesday. Meanwhile, police are looking into a supposed burglary a few months back.

NYDailyNews reported that the alleged Steve Francis took a wallet, a gold wedding ring, a gold diamond band, a makeup pouch, earrings and $100 in cash. Two days later, he returned the alleged "stolen" items to the police station and said: "I just robbed somebody. Take me to jail. I'm turning myself in."

The former Houston Rockets Steve Francis spent six of his nine NBA seasons with the Houston Rockets, making three All-Star teams and winning a Rookie of the Year Award in 1999-2000. He left basketball officially in 2010 after an unsuccessful stint in China.

Since retiring, the ex-NBA All-Star Steve Francis has kept an almost nonexistent public profile aside from his rumors of drug abuse last year.
