Paris Climate Agreement News: U.S. To Face Consequences If Trump Pulls Out

The United States and its President-elect Donald Trump must respect and honor the Paris Climate Agreement. Reports say people are against Trump for his idea of pulling the U.S. out of the agreement.

Nearly 200 countries met for two weeks in Marrakesh, Morocco, to implement the accord. The officials said that the agreement has to be implemented, and Trump has to abide by it. French President Francois Hollande said, "This Paris agreement is irreversible. No one can get out of it."

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also said that the agreement "has now become unstoppable."  After speaking with the president-elect, the secretary-general said he is confident that Trump could be convinced to change his mind.

If Trump tries to cancel the accord, then the consequences would be horrible. China being the largest emitter of greenhouse gas and the U.S. following it should be responsible for cutting down the emission as well.

According to Business Insider, Kelly Sims Gallagher a professor of energy and environmental policy at Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, who also served for Obama as a senior policy advisor in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy spoke about the U.S. and the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

She is also a senior China advisor in the Special Envoy for Climate Change office at the U.S. State Department. Paris Climate Agreement helps in strengthening U.S.-China relationship as there can be tensions in other areas, but both China and U.S. are in good terms with the climate issue.

China government wants to remain in the accord even if the U.S. pulls out. Gallagher throws light on Border-Tax, which could be really difficult to the U.S. companies. Border tax adjustment tool is used to try and equalize the price to make their domestic products competitive. Many countries might impose border tax on products coming in based on their carbon content.
