Nextflix’s ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Update: Creators Hint at More Episodes in the Gilmore Girls’ Future

The fourth and final episode of Netflix's "Gilmore Girls" revival ended with a shocker that left fans both stunned and lost. After waiting for almost a decade for closure on the story of Emily, Lorelai, and Rory Gilmore, the "Gilmore Girls," the much-anticipated comeback ends with "Mom, I'm pregnant."

Yes, Rory Gilmore, forever golden child and role model for the youth, messes up in a big way. The four 90-minute episode of Netflix's "Gilmore Girls" shows her as jobless, homeless, lost, and sleeping a man who's engaged to marry someone else. It's quite a jump from high-school Rory, but it's the only logical explanation to the "Gilmore Girls" story.

Hollywood Reporter says this may have been what Netflix's "Gilmore Girls" creator and writer Amy Sherman-Palladino wanted all along. It can be recalled that the "Gilmore Girls" series ended abruptly years ago, with no resolution to the story. According to reports, these words were exactly how Sherman-Palladino wanted to the story to end.

Observers noted that the "Gilmore Girls" story had always been told from the point of view of Rory Gilmore. It does seem logical that the story closes when Rory comes full circle, when she herself becomes a Mom - a single Mom, since the baby's father is in no position to be with her.

The Mirror reports that this ending of the series leaves the storyline open for more "Gilmore Girls" episodes in the future. A possibility that Sherman-Palladino did not discount. The success of "A Year in the Life," the four-part "Gilmore Girls" revival series, could be the start of a new full season, with the story now taking a more interesting turn.

Luke and Lorelai finally get their happy ending and they are now financially stable - with the Dragon Fly in expanding thanks to a sizable amount left by the late Richard Gilmore to Luke. The diner may not have expanded into an empire, but the Dragon Fly Inn is set to. Jesse, on the other hand, still looks very much in love with Rory. He was the one who advised Rory to write the "Gilmore Girls" book, to tell the amazing story of Rory and her Mom, Lorelai as well as her grandmother, Emily.

It looks like Jesse will be the new Luke, pining and loving Rory from a distance now that she is going to have a child on her own. This brings closure to the story of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, and its odd assortment of characters. The show "Gilmore Girls" ran for seven seasons before ending in 2007.

"We really had a very specific journey in our minds and we fulfilled the journey. So to us, this is the piece that we wanted to do. And the whole thought about, is there more, is there more, is there more - this has to go out into the universe now. And then whatever happens, happens," Sherman-Palladino was quoted in an interview.
