Baby-Wearing Safety: Mom Cautions Parents Who Use Baby Sling Following A Burning Accident

A mom with a newborn baby admits to carrying her daughter all the time using a baby-wearing device, also known as a baby sling. But Molly Landis has realized the hard and painful way that parents should always be conscious about using this handy contraption following a burning accident in her kitchen.

Molly Landis shared her experience in a Facebook post. She writes that her stove burner exploded right to her face and the fire caused severe burns and wounds in her body.

She showed a photo of her burnt chest and said that the burn area is where her baby would have been if she had been carrying her newborn at that time. Her daughter would have been hurt from the explosion as well had she not decided to free her from the baby sling. Luckily, when the burning accident happened, the baby was sleeping in her swing and not attached to her mother as she usually would.

Following her experience, Molly Landis warns parents to "be cautious of the activities we do while wearing our babies." According to Cafe Mom, parents could easily "overlook the inherent dangers" as in this case with Molly Landis.

It's always a good idea to be aware of baby-wearing safety measures when using the baby sling. Parents might love its convenience but prudent use will reduce the risks.

Baby Gear Lab advises that parents should never put their baby in the baby-wearing device if they are drinking something hot as a few drops of tea or coffee could lead to the scalding of the baby's soft head. Thus, it follows that if moms are to work in the kitchen, they shouldn't also be doing double duty by wearing the baby.

Other baby-wearing safety measures include ensuring that the sling offers good support for the baby's neck and back, or that it is without any damage like worn fabric or loose stitching, according to Baby Wearing International. Not all situations are apt for baby-wearing, so parents have to be discerning and use common sense.
