4-Year-Old Identical Twins Inseparable In Life Even In Coping Cancer, One Twin Has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

A family from Charlotte, North Carolina is now facing the impossible, as tumor threatens the good bond between their identical twins. One of their 4-year-old identical twins has Hodgkin's lymphoma, a kind of lymphoma, a tumor that begins in white blood cells known as lymphocytes.

Edilia and Deysi Gomez are identical twins from Charlotte, North Carolina. When they turned three, Edilia was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, cancer of white blood cells or lymphocytes. Even before the diagnosis, the twins are already inseparable. Now that they are four, they became more attached that they even have and speak their language they call "twin speak."

Melody Mendez-Gomez, the mother of the twins, said that sometimes she and her husband think the twins are talking about them because the twins will look at them and laugh and they can't understand what the twins are saying. "They call it boo-boos," People quoted Gomez, as saying.

When Edilia was diagnosed with cancer, she was not acting like herself and has stopped playing. The mother said she just wanted to lay in her bed. The diagnosis left the kid devastated.

After the diagnosis, Edilia has become paler and 10 pounds lighter than Deysi. Her hair grew thick and had become skinny. Her twin sister, Deysi, became her little fighter and protector.

Doctors told Melody that the prognosis of Edilia is good. However, the family still finds it hard to pay the entire medical expenses. The family has been residing in a modest hotel for the recent year. The twins' father works in a construction site as a construction worker while their mommy cleans the house of other people. Since Edilia's diagnosis, their mom takes care of the twins full time.

"It's been hard," WFMY News 2 quoted the mother as saying. However, they are doing their best because they don't want to lose Edilia.

Now, Edilia is on her second chemotherapy treatment for her cancer. To fund her treatment expenses, the employer of her father created a GoFundMe page for her family.
