Best Friends Dead After Tractor Struck Car; Fatal Crash Seen Online Via Facebook Live

A fatal crash took place on Pennsylvania Interstate 380 and the crash was party recorded via Facebook Live. A third friend of the two teens killed was dropped off at her home minutes before the crash happened.

According to reports, the crash happened last Tuesday and the victims were identified as Brooke Miranda Hughes, 18, and Chaniya Morrison-Toomey. The third friend was identified as Samantha Kelly-Piasecki, 17. Teen Vogue reported that Hughes was driving slowly in the right lane of the Interstate 380.

In the Facebook Live Video, Morrison-Toomey, who was the passenger, asked Hughes, who was the driver, if she was going live on the social media platform. Lights then flashed inside the car and the sound of screeching tires was captured. The screen went black and the video lasted for seven more minutes. The video was taken down off of Hughes' Facebook page and police will reportedly use it for investigation.

Police said that the pair was driving on a spare tire and a tractor-trailer ran into the back of the car. The two teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene.

As for the third friend who was dropped off before the crash, People reported that Kelly-Piasceki declined to go with Hughes and Morrison-Toomey as they were heading to the Poconos. She said that she had work in the morning so she did not go with them. At around 3 A.M., Kelly-Piasceki said that her phone started to ring nonstop and she received a text telling her to look at the Facebook page of Hughes.

Kelly-Piasceki noted that it was heartbreaking to watch her friends for the last time and felt like she was only dreaming adding that Hughes just re-enrolled in high school and was trying to get her life back together.

The driver, Michael Jay Parks, was not harmed in the crash. It remained unclear if he will be charged in the accident.

Distracted driving is common to teenagers and 10 percent of all drivers in the 15-19 age bracket have been involved in fatal crashes. Most of those who died were said to be distracted at the time of the crash.
