Does 'Wonder Women's' Hemline Doesn't Empower Women? The U.N. Decides

“Wonder Woman” portrayed by Gal Gadot is one of the most anticipated films in 2017. However, this has caused some commotion in and out of the United Nations because of the superheroes hemline.

The costume issue isn’t new as it had been one of the problems by both fans and Gal Gadot herself. It was too form-fitting that the actress almost fainted because she could not breathe.

Even with this dilemma, “Wonder Woman” was still named an Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls. Gal Gadot, the character was honored in New York last October, Time reports.

However, during the awarding, adults and U.N. staff raised their eyebrows and turned their back on the “large-breasted white woman of impossible proportions.” This wasn’t the first time the superhero faced controversy.

Those who argued against the character’s appointment suggest that there are more women who are equally more empowering than the character. They added that in the face of the fight against sexual exploitation and abuse, real women must stand up for them.

Gal Gadot had already said her piece on the issue. “Wonder Woman” is always told to cover up, but this is a contradiction when people say that a woman can be smart, strong, and sexy.

Her character was supposed to be used on the different social media platforms of the United Nations. The aim was to use her image to empower women with her feminist and muscular bravery; however, not all supported the cause.

An online petition was signed by 44,000 people to reconsider “Wonder Woman’s” representation in the U.N. It was argued that her skimpy outfit and bodysuit was something the world isn’t prepared to see, Fox News reports.

“Wonder Woman” is set to hit the big screens on June 2, 2017. Do you think the character’s outfit has something to do with her being an empowered woman? Let us know what you think.
