Janet Jackson Has Son Eissa At 50-Years-Old: A Timeline To Her Pregnancy & Her First Baby's Birth

Grammy-winning singer Janet Jackson has given birth at 50-years-old. She and husband Wissam Al Mana, 42, welcomed their first child, a baby boy they named Eissa, on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Representatives of the singer confirmed the birth of Janet's baby by issuing a statement that was published on People. "Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably," the statement read. It did not reveal other details about the nature of the birth or where the singer chose to have her baby.

Janet Jackson was in a middle of a concert tour when she announced its postponement in December 2015 due to health reasons. Talks went abuzz that the singer was getting treatment for cancer but Janet Jackson denied this, according to ABC.

In April 2016, she finally confirmed that she and her husband are serious about starting a family, CNN reported. At that time, they said that they intended to have the pregnancy the "old-fashioned" way. Medical experts say that getting pregnant at almost 50-years-old was not impossible but it is challenging.

"The actual likelihood that a woman at 50 will conceive spontaneously is probably less than 1 percent," OB-GYN Dr. Yvonne Bohn told CBS. "In a 50-year-old woman, her success rate with a donor egg is 50 percent, which is the same as a 35-year-old."

At this age, a woman would have to have a healthy uterus as well as healthy eggs to successfully get pregnant. But because of Janet Jackson's age, the speculations were that she indeed got the fertility treatments. The singer, however, has been mum on whether or not her pregnancy was via in vitro fertilization or naturally conceived, as per Huffington Post,
