'Raising An Original' Author Julie Lyles Carr Says Parenting Is Not A 'One-Size-Fits-All' Concept

Julie Lyles Carr, an Austin blog writer and pastor of the women's ministry at Life Austin urges her followers to be a part of a beautiful mystery when parenting a child differently from the other siblings. The "Raising an Original"  author and her husband, Michael have eight children with various temperaments.

In "Raising an Original," Carr revealed the uniqueness of each twin from the other even before they were born — Merci is relaxed while Jake is restless. According to KQED Science, twins may have the same set of DNAs but their genetic mutation is not perfect.

Carr also explained that there are four categories of personalities: the director, the inspirer, the steadfast and the curator. Carr stressed that there are also people with a mixture of these personalities. Hence, respect for each individual and knowing each child for who she or he really is are important.

In the home front, understanding different personalities and identities can be tough. But respect and love conquer them all. One or two house rules will do but lots of creativity and a room to grow are far more healthy and fun.In addition, an effective conversation can also be helpful.

As an online blogger in Austin, Carr learns not to compete with magazine writers. Being judged on social media comes handy and in real time, she can only attest to her own experience and verify that with facts to be credible with her stories, just like in "Raising an Original."

Honoring the difference in each child aids in developing them as a unique individual. If understanding is there, the challenges in parenting are minimized because nurturing young people according to their purpose is not going against nature. The choice to resist the tide or ride safely with it belongs to the parents, as per Austin 360.
