Reasons Why Psychological Parenting Is A Bad Substitute For Discipline

Mothers, in general, tend to think of the behavioral problems of their children in psychological terms. This has proven to be one of the major challenges of parenting today. Some sectors blame this on parenting materials that mothers are often engrossed with, which often lead to what they call intellectual wandering.

Unfortunately, the materials being read by mothers are written mostly by parenting professionals from various fields of mental health. As a result, mothers end up believing that the behavioral problems of their children have psychological explanations. Because of this, some parents think that a variety of psychological conditions such as autism, bipolar tendencies or even schizophrenia are behind the tantrums of their toddlers.

Reflector said this has resulted in disciplinary paralysis where the parents avoid any form of discipline for fear that it will only worsen the psychological problem of the child. Following this belief, parents reason out and talk things over with their child, not knowing that they are already raising a brat who had full control of the family.

Even though the child had no idea of the power he wielded over his parents yet, there will come a time when this could get out of control. Hence, parents are urged to take control of their child's life by putting a stop to the so-called psychological parenting.

According to Psychology Today, although parents are not the only ones that influence their children, no one can deny the big impact they have on the development of their kids. It is very important that parents invest much effort in parenting, no matter what it takes.

Meanwhile, the American Psychological Association noted the healthy development of a child is highly dependent on the quality of the relationship between parent and child. Parenting has three major goals of parenting and one of these is to ensure the health and safety of the child.

Parents should also prepare their children to lead productive lives when they become adults. Amid all these, parents should make sure that they integrate cultural values in their children as they grow older and to achieve these things, parents should make time for their children.
