Why Teens Should Seek Mental Health Help To Avoid Depression Later In Life

A lot of teenagers these days were reportedly suffering from mental illnesses and keep aggravating their health problems by not seeking help it can be because of extra workload or a study even shows that too much drinking can end up causing mental illness like depression. It was recently revealed by a research carried out by the University of Cambridge that if young people receive mental health earlier in life, their suffering and depression in the future can be lessened.

According to the study, 14-year-olds kids suffering from mental illnesses who sought medical attention had a large decrease in their symptoms of depression as compared to those who did not seek any mental help. It also elaborated when these teenagers who did not seek any mental health help reached the age of 17, the chances of them developing clinical depression were about seven times higher compared to those who sought medical attention.

Psych Central revealed 1,238 teens aged 14 were involved in the research. Over the years, the researchers at Cambridge examined the mental state and behavior of the teens while they informed them about their depression and its symptoms. The researchers pointed out individuals who were sought mental health help at an early stage were less likely to develop the risk of depressive symptoms and illness.

Science Daily also reported the researchers explained mental illnesses are a huge "burden" on the teenagers as well. They believed the study supported the idea teenagers suffering from mental health problems should get help to avoid getting severe depression later on in their life.

Earlier this year, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May had publicly announced the steps needed to be taken to enhance the mental health facilities available. With this announcement, it is hoped that mental healthcare will be revolutionized across the country. The funding, however, is the most important factor for any such steps or further researches.
