‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Latest Spoilers, News: Katherine Pierce To Return In Mystic Falls To Revive Damon Into His Real Self

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 rumors suggest that Nina Dobrev will be back as Elena Gilbert on the highly anticipated finale season of the show. However, given that Nina Dobrev is the same actress who portrays Katherine Pierce, "The Vampire Diaries" star might be coming back as Katherine and not Elena.

Though it has not been confirmed whether or not Dobrev will cast as Elena on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, it seems that showrunner Julie Plec had already written Dobrev's character into the story given the rumors of her return. It is not clear, however, if it is Elena or Katherine who will be returning in the lives of the Salvatore brothers.

It may be possible that it will be Katherine who has to come back on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 as the story wraps up. It can be recalled that "The Vampire Diaries" storyline originally involved the love triangle of Damon, Stefan and Katherine. It is how the story started so it may be fair enough to end "The Vampire Diaries" with a wrap up of their love stories.

Additionally, rumors surrounding "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 suggest that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will be controlled by an evil power which will apparently turn him into the dark side. Stefan (Paul Wesley) is willing to protect the people of Mystic Falls from Damon on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 as Entertainment Weekly reported but he may not be able to do it all alone. Katherine's presence may be a big help for Stefan and for the people of Mystic Falls on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 if she will offer help to release Damon out of the evilness that is controlling him, Celeb Dirty Laundry pointed out.

It is important to note, however, Katherine was last seen being dragged into something that resembles hell as she faced death on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5. It remains to be seen if she could still be alive or is she not going back anymore on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. So, these speculations may be taken with a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed yet.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is slated to air on Oct. 21. Previous seasons of "The Vampire Diaries" are now available for streaming on Netflix for fans to enjoy.
