‘Supernatural’ Season 12 News & Spoilers: ‘Jerk’ & ‘Short-Tempered’ Castiel; Man From Crowley’s Past Teams Up With Lucifer

One of the highlights of the twelfth season of "Supernatural" is Lucifer finding a new vessel. The fallen angel will possess the body of former rocker Vince Vincente, who is played by rockstar Rick Springfield.

Castiel (Misha Collins) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) will team up to hunt Lucifer for their own personal reasons. Castiel is seeking vengeance on God's former favorite son for inhabiting his vessel, while Crowley wants to take the king of Hell title back, which he can't do with Lucifer free. The duo's quest, however, isn't going to be a walk in the park.

Lucifer will get help in the form of Russell Lemmons, who will be played by Kadeem Hardison in the upcoming "Supernatural" season. According to Entertainment Weekly, Russell is "a music industry mogul who has a history with Crowley and big plans" for Lucifer's new vessel.

Viewers will see a different Castiel in "Supernatural" Season 12. Collins told EW that his character will be "closer to full power than we have seen him" in years. Though Castiel's wings are still lost to him, his power will be restored to its full glory. Those powers, however, wouldn't come without a cost.

Castiel will be "a little bit of jerk," Collins revealed. The angel will be "short-tempered," which would make his team-up with Crowley all the more interesting. Both Collins and Sheppard said that the unlikely angel-demon pairing is akin to a '70s sitcom or '80s buddy cop comedy. Collins also assured fans that Lucifer completely left Castiel's vessel and there are "no vestiges" remaining.

Season 11 of "Supernatural" also featured Amara/The Darkness (Emily Swallow) resurrecting Mary (Samantha Smith). Though the boys will be happy, the return of their mother will push both Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) into a complicated adjustment period.

"Supernatural" executive producer Andrew Dabb said viewers should expect "a lot of conflict to come," though the three Winchesters are "still very much a family," TV Insider reported. Castiel will be helping the brothers during this adjustment period. The angel will encourage Dean and Sam to "confront the emotional bomb that is their mother showing up," according to EW.

During all of these, a friendship will form between Castiel and Mary, Parent Herald previously reported. "Supernatural" Season 12 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9 PM ET on The CW. Watch a promo for the upcoming season below.
