The parents of a 22-year-old California man are seeking justice for their son after he lost his life trying to defend a woman from an attack.
The victim, identified as Raymond Orozco, was stabbed to death in downtown San Jose on Sunday morning. His parents, Daniela Ruiz and Roy Orozco, said the assailant took the life of more than "just some guy."
Parents Seek Justice for Son's Death
The man's father said that his son went out with his cousin and two female friends on Saturday night before one of the women he was with was allegedly attacked. Raymond allegedly stepped in to try and break it up, but was stabbed himself.
Roy said that Raymond was a man who had a kind heart and was someone who would always be looking to help other people. The parents said their son worked at a group home for seniors with physical and developmental disabilities, and was recently accepted into Chabot College's Fire Academy, according to ABC7 News.
The father said that his son's passing is the loss of "one of the brightest lights" in the world, and affects more than just him and his wife. Raymond's death also affects so many other people, as he had the potential to help a lot of others.
The parents also gave out a message to the person who stabbed their son to death, noting that they want to get justice for what has happened. They added that they want police to find the individual responsible and give them what they deserve.
Protecting Someone Else
San Jose police officers initially responded to calls of a stabbing around 12:51 a.m. on Sunday in a downtown entertainment district. An official statement revealed that when police arrived at the scene, they found an adult male suffering from at least one stab wound, ABC News reported.
They then immediately performed life-saving measures and called paramedics to the scene to deal with the injured individual. Ramond was later transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives are now investigating the fatal stabbing, and the incident could have been recorded on mobile phones by bystanders. The victim's family noted that they provided video footage of the incident to police, but they are not willing to share it with others at the request of investigators.
Authorities are urging the public to call and provide any information about the incident and the suspect, as per NBC Bay Area.
