'Vikings' Season 4 Air Date, News & Update: 'Fallen Hero' Ragnar Lothbrok, Sons In Bloody Battles? Return To England Is For Ecbert Not Magnus?

"Vikings" Season 4 midseason premiere will rework dynamics for fallen hero Ragnar Lothbrok. Although Ragnar Lothbrok returns to Kattegat as a prodigal, "Vikings" Season 4 will continue a tale of greatness for him and his sons. "Vikings" Season 4 midseason premiere initially tagged for July is set for September at the earliest.

"Vikings" Season 4 midseason premiere saw Ragnar Lothbrok, played by "Warcraft" star Travis Fimmel, return to Kattegat to challenge for his throne. Princess Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland), who took over rule of Kattegat in "Vikings" Season 4 after Ragnar went to battle Rollo (Clive Standen) in Paris and disappeared after defeat.

Interestingly, challenge to his throne at the "Vikings" Season 4 midseason premiere will come for Ragnar Lothbrok from his sons as reported on Parent Herald. Before the "Vikings" Season 4 break, Ragnar met his grown sons Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), Hvitserk (Marco Islo), Sigurd (David Lindstron) and Ivar The Boneless (Alexander Hogh Andersen) for the first time.

TV Guide cites "Vikings" creator and producer Michael Hirst in stating that "Vikings" Season 4 will explore how each son has attributes of Ragnar Lothbrok in them. Ironically, the most promising of them is Ivar The Boneless (Alex Hogh Andersen), his crippled son who Ragnar could not bear to kill as an infant despite urging by Aslaug.

Ragnar will also come to know in "Vikings" Season 4 that he has another son, Magnus, by Queen Kwenthrith (Amy Bailey). However, Michael Hirst tells TV Guide that Ragnar will return to England for King Ecbert (Linus Roache) rather than for Magnus.

Earlier in "Vikings" Ragnar Lothbrok and King Ecbert shared a bond, albeit a traitorous on. "Vikings" Season 4 will see Ragnar Lothbrok want to explore that connection with Ecbert once more. There is also the matter of settling the score with Ecbert in "Vikings" Season 4 for killing Norse people whom Ragnar and Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) entrusted to him.
