'The Last of Us 2' Release Date, News & Update: Sequel To Have Multiple Intriguing Storylines; Release Date Revealed?

Highly regarded as the best video game of the PS3 generation, "The Last of Us", was met with critical acclaim, taking players on a action-packed, emotionally-charged journey through a zombie filled post apocalyptic world. Now, fans are eagerly waiting for the much-anticipated sequel, "The Last of Us 2"

In the first game, "The Last of Us", the main protagonist Joel, sets off to bring a young girl named Ellie across the barren country, fighting off zombies and other survivors using a variety of weapons, stealth and wit. With the game's ending leaving fans with so many unanswered questions, the story definitely couldn't have ended there.

Rumors are now surfacing for "The Last of Us 2," where many are saying that Naughty Dog, the acclaimed development team of "The Last of Us" and "Uncharted", might explore more on Joel and Ellie's past, according to Gamerant, since there's plenty of time between the initial outbreak and the main storyline.

According to Neil Druckmann, the creative director of "The Last of Us," said in an interview with Playstation magazine that they drafted numerous ideas in multiple directions for the storyline of "The Last of Us 2." "We were brainstorming ideas for The Last Of Us 2 with new characters; ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie; ideas for a sci-fi game; ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each one of those ideas," says Druckmann, adding "as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4," in a report from Cinemablend

Druckmann also mentioned that Naughty Dog is in the works for developing "new" characters for "The Last of Us 2." This might mean that main protagonists, Joel and Ellie, may not be in the new game.

There is currently no confirmed release date for "The Last of Us 2", but a remastered version of the first "The Last of Us" is now available for the Playstation 4.
