‘Scandal’ Season 6 Air Date, Latest Spoilers: Olivia, Fitz Reuniting At Last? Ex-Lovers Plan To Destroy Cyrus’ Treacherous Plans

Following the official confirmation from ABC President Channing Dungey about "Scandal" season 6 as a "return to form" season, avid fans are looking forward to the interesting twists of the hit ABC political thriller series. As a matter of fact, expectations are quite high for the imminent television premiere of the series after Dungey revealed the upcoming season has a "fantastic" script.

Even though some fans were disappointed about "Scandal" season 6's exclusion from ABC's Thursday-night lineup this fall, the upcoming season would not be for the faint-hearted. The reason? Well, let's just say the sixth installment of the series may turn into a "bloodbath," with Cyrus Beene's (Jeff Perry) Machiavellian tactics to bring down Mellie (Bellamy Young) and her dream to become the next U.S. president.

Fortunately, Parent Herald previously reported that Olivia (Kerry Washington) will do all the best she can to save Mellie's candidacy in "Scandal" season 6, with some speculating that Liv might also devise some strategies to defeat Cyrus. Speaking of Olivia's plans, rumors have it that she might reunite with her ex-lover and the former U.S. President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn).

Given the fact that Cyrus is Fitz's former chief-of-staff, the ex-president may be knowledgeable of his cunning ways. Hence, it would not be really surprising to learn if Fitz will help Liv save Mellie and Jake's (Scott Foley) candidacies.

Based on Young's Variety interview, the 46-year-old actress revealed that Fitz is supporting her character in "Scandal" season 6. Young also added that she believes the former U.S. president will also support Jake's campaign despite the deceit and being Liv's current lover.

Young, however, also mentioned that the greatest challenge that might ensue if Olivia will enlist the help of Fitz in "Scandal" season 6 and its none other than his jealousy towards Liv's relationship to Jake. But Young also stressed Fitz will be more open-hearted in the upcoming season.

Aside from Olivia and Fitz's anticipated reunion in "Scandal" season 6, fans are also dying to know who will end up dead or who will win the presidential campaign as the upcoming season will commence on the election night where Mellie goes against Frankie (Ricardo Chavira) for the presidential seat. Since it was previously noted that the new season might turn into a "bloodbath," then it's safe to assume that one of the characters would be killed off this season.

What's more interesting about the rumors surrounding "Scandal" season 6 was the claims that Tom (Brian Letscher), who Cyrus easily ditched at the season 5 finale, will be devising a retribution plan again Cyrus. According to Bustle, Letscher suggested his character might run amuck after he felt deeply betrayed and angry following Cyrus' scheming ways.

Meanwhile, a shorter "Scandal" season 6 will reportedly have a midseason premiere in early 2017 but some reports claimed the series' air date will be on Feb. 11 at its usual 9 p.m. timeslot on Thursdays on ABC. The shorter episode count will have something to do with lead star Kerry Washington's pregnancy.
