‘Pokémon Go’ Tips & Tricks: Can Players Hatch Rare Regional Pokémon Outside Of Their Region? Niantic CEO Debunks Claims

The most die-hard "Pokémon GO" fans aim to catch all original 151 pocket monsters in the game. Though that feat is possible, it is also difficult to attain. Many players in America only catch around 142 without overseas travel, while the remaining elusive ones -- four regional Pokémon (except Tauros), Ditto, and five legendary creatures (Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, Mew, and Mewtwo) -- are hard to catch or are still missing from the game.

"Pokémon GO" players are hoping to catch those four region-specific Pokémon: Farfetch'd, Kangaskhan, Mr. Mime, and Tauros. Others have claimed that they hatched regional exclusives out of Eggs outside of their region. But is this really possible? Niantic CEO John Hanke addressed the subject once and for all.

A "Pokémon GO" player recently asked Hanke on Twitter if regionals can indeed be hatched out of Eggs outside of their region via walking. Hanke tweeted back that "the eggs can only be found in their natural habitat."

But how about those "Pokémon GO" users who claimed that they obtained region-specific Pokémon by walking to hatch Eggs? According to iDigitalTimes, those players may have used a popular GPS spoof cheating software to purchase Eggs from other regions in the world.

GPS spoofing cannot be carried out in "Pokémon GO" anymore, but those who used it fooled the app into believing that they were in another part of the globe. This was done by entering the accurate coordinates into an interface, "transporting" themselves into other regions and buying Eggs there. Those Eggs then hatched region-specific Pokémon.

According to Eurogamer, the majority of Farfetch'd encounters occurred in Asia, particularly in Japan and South Korea. Kangaskhan sightings, meanwhile, take place in Australasia, which comprises Australia, New Zealand, the island of New Guinea, and neighboring islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Mr. Mime, on the other hand, can be found in Europe. Tauros is in North America, specifically in vast, desert-like, or rodeo-related locations.

Nick Johnson was the first "Pokémon GO" player to catch all 145 Pokémon currently available in the game, BuzzFeed reported. The 28-year-old booked a flight to Hong Kong, Sydney, and France to do so, with Expedia and Marriott shouldering the price of his plane tickets after he gained fame for capturing all 142 Pokémon catchable in America.
